Recently, I was awarded the Andrew Light Award in Public Philosophy by the International Society for Environmental Ethics (ISEE). Below the letter by Katie McShare, president of the ISEE announcing the award.

I am happy to announce this year’s recipient of the Andrew Light Award in Public Philosophy: Laura García-Portela. Dr. García-Portela is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Erasmus University Rotterdam whose research focuses on climate ethics, climate justice, and related areas. In addition to being an accomplished scholar, Dr. García-Portela has done an enormous amount of public-facing work (including magazine and newspaper articles, interviews, blog posts, and podcasts) related to climate change, in both English and Spanish, across many countries. Dr. García-Portela has also done public work in both Spain and the Netherlands advocating for the value of philosophy.
