Garcia-Portela, L. (2020) Connecting climate justice, human rights and burden-sharing: A philosophical perspective, 29(3) Human Rights Defender 11.
The Human Rights Defender digital publication is published monthly by the Australian Human Rights Institute and features interviews, research updates and commentary by Institute staff and its 200+ Associates on a broad range of human rights topics. In this short piece, I do three things. Firstly, I define dangerous climate change invoking the notion of human rights. Secondly, I argue that climate justice concerns the protection against human rights impacts caused by climate change through mitigation and adaptation measures, as well as the compensation for the impact. Thirdly, I argue that climate justice also requires a fair burden-sharing scheme and propose three alternative principles of justice.

Newspaper editorials

From 2017 to 2022, I collaborated with ‘Última Llamada’, a blog attached to the Spanish newspaper eldiario.es. The blog featured a good number of editorials from scientists and public intelectuals raising awareness about the ecological crisis. Below there are some of the editorials I wrote for this newspaper.
